About

I am a Renaissance girl in Bowling Green, Ohio, USA.

My father always used to prepare for operas by staying up too late 2 days before the show, resting the day before the show, and then singing the next. It seemed to work really well until my mom went into labor on his day of rest. I don't know how the opera went, but he was a very happy papa.

As the daughter of two musicians, art and music were always supported. I remember being 4 or 5 and sitting under the grand piano in my father's office while his opera students had their lessons. I was notorious for making faces when they sang the phrase wrong or a bad note.

As for my own music endeavors, I bombed violin and clarinet, but have stuck with piano and voice since I was 6. I've been in choirs non-stop since Junior High. When I wasn't on stage, I was back stage. I worked as Assistant Stage Manager for a few years at BGSU's Kobacher Hall and as Stage Manager for a few performances with Black Swamp Musical Theater. Some of the most memorable singing performances include:

  • 1993 - Easter singing tour through Poland and the Czech Republic with the Bowling Green High School Madrigal Singers. We started in Warsaw and ended on Easter Sunday with a concert in Prague.
  • 1994 - Singing tour through Utah and at the Mormon Tabernacle with the BGHS Madrigal Singers
  • 1995 - Bowling Green State University Collegiate Chorale singing Ralph Vaughn Williams' "Dona nobis pacem" and the featured bass was my father
  • 1997 - Salzburg, Austria Dom Choir singing Brahms' "Ein Deutsches Requiem" (the cathedral was built in 700A.D.)
  • 2000 - BGSU Collegiate Chorale "Southern Summer Tour". We started in Bowling Green and sang from church to church all the way to New Orleans and back.
  • 2002 - BGSU Collegiate Chorale "French Riviera" tour starting in Milan, Italy ending in Paris, France. We sang New Year's Eve at the cathedral in Monaco.

Art was another way to pass time. My grandmother did oil painting and my mother did quilting, watercolors and has recently picked up china painting. I prefer chalk and watercolors myself, although I do quilt a lot.

Science is a favorite. I loved Math and Physics in High School and studied both in college. Computer Science was something I picked up my (first) senior year. I managed to find a great internship that taught me a lot about programming. After graduation I started working for a software company doing web design and other duties. I still use geometry a lot at my 9-5 job with The Electric Quilt Company.

I'm married to the most wonderful guy named Matt. He's definitely my soul mate and confidant. He's just as geeky and artsy as I am, and has the same restlessness of mind that I do --- always wanting to do, see, and be more.
